About Nathan Hoturoa Gray

Nathan Hoturoa Gray, was brought up in Wellington, New Zealand with a Maori Mother from the Ngai Tahu, Rangitaane, Waikato Tribes and a Father of English / Scottish decent. This bi-cultural upbringing gave him access to many cultural worlds growing up and an interest in race relations all over the world. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Politics / International Relations, a Post Graduate Diploma in Creative Writing / Journalism and a Law (Honours) degree at Victoria University in Wellington and on EAP Scholarship at the University of Davis, California.
After serving as a lawyer in California, Alaska and Saipan - Nathan became an adventure journalist travelling through over 80 countries and communicating in seven languages. His articles have appeared in National Geographic, TNT UK, New Zealand's Tu Mai Magazine and Hollywood's P3 Update.
Nathan’s first book: First Pass Under Heaven - One Man's 4000km Trek along the Great Wall of China is a Penguin Best Seller. Available worldwide, the journey was shown on the National Geographic Channel. A DVD educational supplement package was also released alongside over 500 motivational speeches made throughout the world.
Nathan’s second book: The Age of Fire looks at where the human species is heading into the future and his third book covered the controversies, highlights and challenges of the FIFA World Cups in Brazil, South Africa and South Korea. His fourth book: The End of Adolescence documents the tipping point of humanity and the planet through many of articles written over the past 20 years working as a journalist. He has recently finished 5 year terms sitting on Te Waka Toi: the Maori Arts Board of Creative New Zealand and Nga Taonga: Sound and Vision – New Zealand’s foremost audio-visual archive. His vision is to help spread valued, authentic and inspirational ideas to a national and global audience. He currently lectures in Communications , Politics of the Environment and Conservation Medicine in New Zealand, Hawaii and Switzerland for Michigan State University.
